The artist qargo introduces the Q ART code to contemporary art, inventing a unique interactive artistic experience. qargo offers a privileged digital access to the intimacy of its works, by allowing the user to discover the story of boxing legend Mohamed Ali.
On December 2, 2023, qargo met Masahiro Hara in Tokyo. This exceptional exchange enabled the French artist to pay a singular tribute to the inventor of the QR code, which has one billion users worldwide.
The highlight of the meeting was the presentation by qargo of a work from its collection, featuring an original portrait of Hara on the front and the interactive QR code on the back. The QR code is one of the key features of qargo’s artistic work, becoming a veritablebridge between the physical work and the digital world.
Hara admired his invention’s unprecedented artistic detour.
“The qargo project is a striking example of how art and technology can combine to give birth to something extraordinarilysingular”, noted the Japanese engineer. The artist said: “This exceptional exchange with a remarkably humble person marks a decisive turning point in my career as an artist.
Hara then shared information about the new generation of QR code generators, which offer even more artistic possibilities.
This encounter was the catalyst for a new artistic exploration in which the QR code – as hijacked by the artist – takes on a semi-abstract form that echoes the world of the ad hoc personality, while remaining perfectly functional.
Using Artificial Intelligence and multiple iterations, qargo generates an “artistic” QR code. This “Q-ART code” is then reworked by the artist before being finally realized in Lego on the reverse side of the work. From then on, the Q-ART code is not only anintegral partof the aesthetic, but also provides an unusual digital experience that reveals the work’s characteristics, its mysteries and an original biography of the character, highlighting the values that inspired the artist in his representation.
Far from the hermetic abstraction of certain forms of contemporary art, qargo proposes a new, direct and authentic artistic commitment.
With qargo, Art becomes an exploration, an adventure that goes beyond simple observation to become an engaging experience, a game where each viewer is invited to actively participate in the story, which continues online if they wish.
His interactions with Masahiro Hara reinforced his vision of Art as a powerful vector of communication, where each work becomes an opportunity to transmit, inspire and weave narratives that resonate with the modernity and interactivity of our times.
” I don’t believe in chance, but in the power of intention and creation. The QR code offers the ideal gateway to move from a real world (the physical work) to a virtual world and thus better initiate the new, more digital generations.” says the artist, adding “My career as an entrepreneur and artist reflects this unshakeable belief that we are the architects of our own destinies, but also the essential relays for future generations.
